Personal Information

Taotao Zhuang is a full professor and doctoral supervisor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Science and Technology of China. He holds dual appointments as a Professor at the Hefei National Research Center for Physical Sciences at the Microscale and an Adjunct Professor at the First Affiliated Hospital of the University of Science and Technology of China.  He received his Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from the University of Science and Technology of China in 2015, under the supervision of Academician Shu-Hong Yu. From 2016 to 2020, he pursued his postdoctoral research in the group of Prof. Edward H. Sargent (a distinguished Fellow of both the Royal Canadian Academy of Sciences and the Canadian Academy of Engineering) at the University of Toronto. In April 2020, he joined the University of Science and Technology of China as an independent principal investigator, where he established the “Chiral Structure and Function Lab” and has served as a Full Professor in the Department of Chemistry since January 2025. 

 Prof. Zhuang’s research aims to develop novel chiral functional micro/nanomaterials, investigate their structural and performance mechanisms, and utilize these materials for practical optical applications, including chiral polarization sensing, information interaction, 3D displays, and biodetection.  
In the optics-related fields, Prof. Zhuang has more than 50 refereed SCI publications, in which his being corresponding/first author on papers (with a total number over 30) in Nat. Nanotechnol. (1), Nat. Catal. (2), Sci. Adv. (3), Nat. Commun. (4), J. Am. Chem. Soc. (2), Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. (2), as well as other leading journals. So far, Prof. Zhuang achieved a personal H-index of 35 and his work has been cited by others for over 8000 times (i.e., over 160 citations per paper).
